PMax Search Terms Report Doesn’t Work (Or Only Works via the Prompt Library)

Why some models claim they can’t pull Performance Max search terms, and how to fix it.

You ask for a Performance Max search terms report and the AI says it can't do it — or it works through the prompt library but not as a normal question. Here is what is going on.

The cause: model knowledge, not HYPD

PMax search terms were only added to the Google Ads API relatively recently. Older AI models don't know the feature exists, so they respond that it isn't possible — even though HYPD can absolutely pull the data.

Fixes

  1. Use a newer model. Recent models know about PMax search terms and handle the request directly.

  2. Or run it through the prompt library. The library prompt tells the model exactly how to pull the data from the API, so it works with any model.

This capability is also being turned into a built-in skill so it works automatically regardless of model.
